Why am I sometimes numb around my penis area after cycling?

Answer

Your bicycle seat may be pressing on your nerves and soft tissues and causing some damage. In time this damage could develop into impotence and chronic pelvic pain.

The culprit is teh long-nosed bicycle seat – and the cure is the no-nose bicycle seat.

The explanation:

The nose of the traditional long-nosed bike seat presses on your nerves and soft tissues. This can cause pain or numbness in your penis and surrounding area, due to a nerve getting pinched or the blood supply to the penis getting shut off. Over time, impotence and other problems such as chronic pelvic pain may appear.

Recent studies suggest that around 3% of cyclists suffer impotence caused by their bicycle seat.

Solution to your numbness and inte penis area and perineum:

Change to a broader seat that spreads your weight over a wider area.

If you don’t feel numb after riding, you are unlikely to be at risk and you can keep on riding.

Some scientific evidence:

A recent paper, amusingly called Cutting off the nose to save the penis reported that policemen who changed to a “no-nose” bicycle seat were able to eliminate most of their impotence and pain problems.

Bicycle police officers from five U.S. metropolitan areas were asked to select a no-nose seat for their bicycles and use it exclusively for 6 months.

By the end of the six-month trial of the no-nose seat, there was a 66% reduction in seat contact pressure in the perineal region. The policemen reported improved sensitivity of their penis to touch and improved erectile function.

The number of men indicating they were free of numbness and other unwanted sensations around the penis and perineum rose from 27% to 82% while cycling using no-nose saddles.
