What’s some good advice to give my child who’s about to start university?

Both articles offer great practical advice such as:

  • Watch out for weight gain due to eating more carbs and processed foods.
  • Sit near the front of the class.
  • Buy more undies to  cut down on how often you have to do your washing.
  • Use all the free university services available, including the counseling and tutoring services.
  • Get enough sleep.
  • Wash your hands often.
  • Form study groups–but restrict their size to around 3-5 people.
  • Don’t do anything illegal. It’ll appear on your permanent record and make life hard for you later.
  • Stay for the whole lecture; professors often give out useful information right at the end.
  • Get involved in campus activities; productive socializing is very healthy.
  • Speak up. Ask questions in class. Answer questions.
  • Learn to write well. Go to any free writing courses on offer.
  • Develop a simple way to organize yourself that works for you.
